Gun Fool
Two pictures
CYA accuracy fool friends:
I'm posting these pictures here because the thread about who owns the pistol on the cover of my book is getting way too long.......
OK...........
I file the closing cam on the locking lugs of my XP pistols......by hand.....always have...
And the amount of closing cam is slightly different on each pistol...
On each individual pistol I file the closing cam on the locking lugs until I get the easy closing and easy cam effort seating rounds that the action needs, then stop...
So again, the amount of cam is slightly different for each pistol....
Kinda like fingerprints.....no two are exactly alike...
Now.....................
I "think" I've found a difference between the pistol on my book cover and Big Dog's #7 pistol..
That difference is the amount of closing cam on each......
There's two cross pins that hold the front and rear halves of a 40-X breech bolt together.....
I placed a thin white circle around the 12 o'clock locking lugs cross pin of each picture...
If you look closely, you can see there's more meat from the back edge of the cross pin to the front edge of the closing cam on the locking lug, on the book cover pistol than on Big Dog's #7 pistol...
Actually quite a bit more.......
Therefore.......
It's looking like Big Dog's #7 pistol is not my book cover pistol......

Now.....I'm going to study these pictures some more.....to make sure there's not an optical illusion going on here.......
So I'm not 100% positive, yet....

PS:
If any of you CYA folks see something I'm miss-evaluating, or something I don't see that you do, please comment....OK...
One other thing I just noticed....
You can see the number 7 on the bolt handle of the #7 pistol.......really stands out....
The flash of the camera has cast a bright highlight on the bolt handle of the book cover pistol...
But..................
Am I seeing just a hint of the top of the number 7, just above the highlight on the book cover pistol?
The hint is in the exact same location on the bolt handle.......
Or am I imagining it......?
