Paladin and the Duke of Earl....SPEC 7 and SPEC 6

Memories and reflections.....

This picture was taken October 13, 2008...

It shows Paladin with Duke of Earl behind him on my work bench....both under construction.

Both in their original stocks.....different colors but identical otherwise.

This picture is of Paladin's final range test....SPEC 7

CYA accuracy fool friends, when I built Paladin and the Duke back in 2008, if I had to predict which would produce the most Big National Event wins, it would have been Paladin....

But...................

Duke of Earl got all the glory once they got to the field of competition, with Craig Young winning the first Indoor PSL, Rocky River, with 102 competitors present....

So Duke of Earl became an icon right off the bat, and has become one of the two or three most famous RFBR guns in the World.......

While Paladin was relegated to the ash heap of forgotten RFBR guns......

CYA accuracy fool friends, Paladin was one of my greatest disappointments as a RFBR schmidt....

And I was so sure that Paladin would be the "star" between him and the Duke......

And then 11 years later Robert Oates, Bruce Doster, Noah Johns and Jeff Patterson came along.

Robert acquired Paladin and put him in the hands of Noah and Bruce....folks capable of showcasing him.

Then Jeff Patterson performed his bedding and straight lining magic, plus his artistic stock painting...

And now Bruce and Noah are vindicating my opinion of Paladin from my testing with he and the Duke back in 2008'.

And Bruce and Noah aren't done......oh my no they aren't.....

After what Bruce and Paladin did to that talented crowd at Howard Prince last week-end, the sky's the limit...

Finally:

It's taken almost 12 years for Paladin to be vindicated.....

Was it worth the wait, for me......

Oh my yes...........

Thank you Robert, Bruce, Noah and JPAT.

I'm very cited......

I'm very cited......

CYA accuracy fool friends:

I'm very cited......

Two talented RFBR competitors, Bruce Doster and Noah Johns, and one extremely talented RFBR schmidt, Jeff Patterson, are validating my testing of Paladin and Duke of Earl from 13 years ago, when I felt sure that between these two Calfee SPEC rifles that Paladin would prove the better.....

But Duke of Earl got all the glory.....and deservedly so when Craig Young won the 2009 Rocky River PSL with 102 competitors in attendance....

An aside:

Please don't hold me to this, cause I may be wrong...

Didn't Wendell Dean, who ran second to Craig at the Rocky River PSL in 2009, also shoot Duke of Earl?

Wendell 2.jpg

CYankee Wendell Dean won the 2010 IR-50 Unlimited Indoor Nationals shooting one of my Lilja barreled Turbos...

Anyway.................

The Duke got all the glory but now it's Paladin's time to shine......

Which he's most certainly doing while being driven by Noah and Bruce..

Did I know 13 years ago?

Did I know 13 years ago?

Looking at SPEC 7, Paladin and SPEC 6, Duke of Earl sitting on my work bench, did I know at that moment in time that both would be winners, Big National Event winners?

This will sound self serving, but yes, I knew......

See, I had already tested both, and knew exactly what they were capable of....

And yes, I did feel Paladin would excel slightly better than the Duke....

But it didn't work out that way.....

Please keep in mind, this was October of 2008....

Craig Young won the 2009 PSL at Rocky River, with an amazing 102 competitors, with the Duke..

I still think Wendell Dean, who ran second, also shot the Duke......I think?

Paladin................

CYA accuracy fool friends it's taken a while, but, Paladin is coming into his own thanks to Bruce, Noah, Robert and Jeff.

Yes, I knew 13 years ago that SPEC 6 and SPEC 7 would one day be Icons in the world of Big Time RFBR...

This is what makes being a RFBR schmidt worth while....

I am lucky....or blessed....or both...

Paladin......I knew he would be a star one day...........
