A riddle..........

CYA accuracy fool friends:

I have a riddle.....just for fun......OK...

What would happen if you took a "perfectly" taper lapped Shilen octagon barrel, and fit it "perfectly" to a well blueprinted MD-PAS ignition action, and fed it some of the killer Lapua ammo, then woke up one morning and found yourself in Texas?

I know, it's just a riddle.....

But for the sanity of SAP Nation, I hope it stays just a riddle...

SAP Nation needs a win....badly.....

After last week-end at the MD-PAS ignition love fest in Georgia, SAP Nation needs a win.......

Hopefully that the ARA Indoor season is about over, where the equipment is at a premium, maybe Outdoors SAP Nation can get that win they need...

Friend Tony "TDX" Harper:

TDX, you're the sage of RFBR fairness and responsibility......

A question:

As everyone knows Lapua dominates RFBR today............Eley is simply not competitive.....not at the Big National Event level....

TDX, what if someone won a Big National Event today shooting Eley.....but what if the Eley they used was from a few years past when Eley did produce killer ammo.

You can imagine all the "new" Eley that would be bought by unsuspecting ammo seekers........

TDX, I guess what I'm asking is this....ethically, should a competitor who did this inform everyone that they used old Eley, not current Eley.....or should it just be buyer beware?

Bill,

That is some question.

Ammo has always been a very big part of this sport. Widely accepted that there are big differences in ammo brands, and even lot number to lot number of the same brand.

Back in the day when ammo was plentiful shooters would keep the lot number they were shooting close hold.

The thought was this or that lot number increased your chances of winning. There was some truth to that.

If you look back, shooters with the most access to ammo have always performed best as a group.

Today, finding and buying good ammo is as much of a competition as the shooting itself. At least it seems to be.

Getting back to your question. Should a shooter inform others of what they are shooting. I really don't think it matters. Even if you know the killer lot number, you normally can't buy it anyway.

But the more important point is there are still great shooting lot numbers to be found with Eley as well as other brands.

I recently learned of three different shooters using current year Eley (different lots) shooting some really killer scores.

That is not to say Eley has turned the corner. It is more to say that anything can happen in rimfire. Each shooter has to follow their own path and not be shoe holed into believing there is only one way forward. This is true for ammo, barrels, actions, and everything else we use.

You made the point that others can be misled and waste resources trying to follow the leader.

Fair point, but followers are not leaders, and we need to cultivate our leaders. Lord knows we have precious few true leaders anymore.

It is sad or amazing that there has not been enough passion from other 22 LR makers to really challenge Lapua or Eley when talking killer ammo what RFBR and serious prone shooters can accept.
RWS is one who has skills. Nowadays there has not been even try from Federal,Fiocchi etc.

I know it is much easier make 22 LR ammo to customer segment who dont have so high quality needs as RFBR shooters have.

I have had few intresting discussions with Mr Miroslaw Varga, the owner of Euroshooting. He is Olympic winner and many time medallist World Championships on prone shooting.
He takes 2-3 quality prone rf.s and then go to Lapua or RWS factory to batch tests.Buying lots what are good or killer to all his rf:s.
Then he sell those with selected brand.Take few cents higher price compared 22 LR ammo not selected.

Most intresting part of discussion was customers feedback of those selected lots.As we know there is no lot what is killer with 10/10 rf:s.
But selected RWS lots users/customers find those much bigger % to killer than selected Lapua users/customers.
We got those selected lots from Miroslaw here and saw the same thing.

Now this under sounds fantasy and Bill can say we must use what we have or can control today....

If some 22 LR ammo maker build smaller production line where they can easily change things and make killer ammo to each rf.Custom made.

There is question: Can profit to maker be enough good thisway business idea?We can ask is it better to make one million ammo/day with 2 cent profit each or make one hundred thousand ammo/day with 20 cents profit each.

I have evidences on my table that this was not completely fantasy on 80s there in Klimovsk factory when they made Olimp-R.They can change things.Bullet hardness, primer mass force & powder force combination etc.
They can make killer lot to each rf or to most of them.
But they have no worry about profit.Goverment took care of costs.

Did they have passion to developing?? Maybe one motivation or drive was that if you cant produce killer ammo you find you easily from Siberia....

Friend TDX:

Sage advice from an ole sage....thank you....

Tony, no one is going to win Big National RFBR Events using the current Eley.....

A club match?.......yes......

Just look at the ole Hawk........he's won two PSL's recently since he dropped Eley and started using Lapua...

DSC05034 - Copy.JPG

And then there's Paul "Minimally Invasive" Tolvstad...

DSC01715.jpg

TDX, if Paul would go to Lapua, my goodness what he could do with Invasive......I know, I've shot Invasive.....so I know how bad it is...

So the current Eley is simply not competitive at the Big National Event level...

Which kills me as I bleed Eley red.....

I bleed Eley red.....

I bleed Eley red.....

Seekers of rimfire accuracy advancement:

I bleed Eley red but the chance of someone shooting current Eley breaking Big Dog's ARA Indoor Nationals Record is as close to zero as it can possibly get.......

I don't believe anyone shooting Lapua will break Big Dog's Record, so there's no way anyone shooting current Eley will......

Again this kills me cause I do bleed Eley Red....
