Jeff, I saw a posting about this coating and then read some information on the website, and watched a video about it from Anschutz. This is a ceramic coating that you can spray on a bolt, wipe it off, and then go shoot. I was wondering if you have any experience with these types of spray lubes which could be used on the cocking ramp portions of the bolt and the internal bolt body, and avoid the use of grease which can migrate down into the bolt, and cause problems. Obviously, if you use grease, and open up and clean the bolt internals (as in your video), you should not have any problems with the bolt gumming up and impacting the smooth functioning of the bolt. If you used this, I assume you would still use grease on the lugs?

Thanks for any info or experience you can share...

Larry

Hi Larry,

I have no experience with this particular product.....or any other product using a ceramic coating.
If someone told me that a simple spray on and wipe off product would eliminate the need for grease I would be leery and test it carefully.

My understanding of the Anschutz Keramik is that it is used primarily for protection against corrosion.....not to eliminate the use of bolt grease lubricant. We use grease to stop wear and galling.....not to stop corrosion.

Just my opinion......again.....I have never used the product.

Take Care my friend.

Larry, I have used the Keramik coat on my bolt exterior and it seems to slide easier on open and close. However, I still use a heavy grease, sparingly, on the lugs and cocking ramp on my Turbo V3. Anshutz states that you can also use it in your barrel. I have read pros and cons concerning this use so I guess it boils down to whatever works for you. I recently had a prominent gun builder tell me to never put C4 carbon remover in your barrel. I use it in the lead and let it soak for about 15 minutes before pulling the patch through the barrel and proceed with my reguar cleaning. I see no harm in using Keramik coat on the bolt body. Take care. Les

I use it every time I clean the bolts. It protects and adds to lubrificantes, but doesn't replace the grease on certain bolt areas.
Never used it on the barrel, and no will to do it.

Les, thanks for the info. I use C4 in my Muller barrels, and have not had any issues to date. I primarily clean during matches with Hoppe's (3 wet), and dry patches (3 dry), and after a match, I'll clean with Hoppe's, then use one or two C4 patches. I let the second patch sit in the chamber for about 5 minutes, then do a single stroke using a brush, then finally, a few Hoppe's wet patches to remove the C4, and then 3 dry patches to finish up.
