I bleed Eley red.....
CYA accuracy fool friends:
I bleed Eley red....Lapua never did anything for me throughout my entire career as a RFBR Schmidt, Eley and I worked together very successfully.
I've always considered the natural based wax that Eley uses to be superior to the grease that Lapua uses....
I've now changed my mind........
The Lapua grease is far superior..........................................
You ask why?
Starting with a clean bore and chamber:
With the Eley natural based wax the amount of wax changes drastically the more rounds you fire.....and every few rounds the buildup gets so large that the system finally gets flushed, then you start the buildup all over.....
So from a clean bore/chamber to say 75 rounds, you have a constantly changing amount of wax that the bullet deals with...
On the other hand, the Lapua grease changes its buildup rate very little from a clean chamber/bore up to 75 rounds, or so....
The Lapua grease is far superior to the Eley natural based wax........
And this from someone who bleeds Eley red........but it is what it is.....
I've been suspicious of this for a long time.....but my Eley bias wouldn't let me see the light, I guess.....
Then a couple nights ago I was lying in bed thinking and it dawned on me....
I've never been able to use Eley rounds for slugging when I do my bore evaluation on a new blank....I've always used SK or Lapua slugs.....which use grease.....
You do not get the "feel" needed with Eley rounds that you get with SK or Lapua rounds.
So how could I expect Eley to shoot better?
