New chamber design

CYA accuracy fool friends:

I was talking with a CYankee today and he said that on another forum he read where someone has come up with a new rimfire chamber design..

Now hang on to your hats.....

This new chamber uses straight walls, no taper, and it uses a leade angle of 2 degrees...

I mean, can you imagine a chamber without any taper.....and a 2 degree leade angle...

I mean, what will they come up with next?

And I've used a leade angle of 2 degrees forever.....also mentioned in my book...

Leade angles of less than 2 degrees, by the time the chamber is finished, wind up at 2 degrees anyway...

And leade angles over 2 degrees leave a "step" in the chamber once they're finished....

Friend JPatt, this is why for years I used a piloted hobb to finish my chambers...
Then my 2 degree leade stayed at exactly 2 degrees..

You don’t understand this is a new chamber with something different. I don’t know what and I can’t get a copy of the drawings but it has a new name on it so it has to have something special right? I was told it has straight sides and a 2 degree leade but that was all that was revealed.

"I have used it on CZ455's, Vudoo's and RimX's. I have chambered all the barrels so a chambered round just touches the second driving band into the lands and extracts a live unfired round just fine. It has a 2 degree lead angle.."

TDX, it looks like the Eachus reamer is the ticket for CZ455's, Vudoo's and RimX's....

If it is all that in those actions I can just imagine it would be just as killer in a Turbo. I can’t think of any reason it wouldn’t. Maybe we are about to see another mile stone reached in rimfire accuracy.

Those actions are repeaters....so the chamber can't be engraved as much or they won't reliably extract.....

TDX, as you know, the finest accuracy comes when the chamber is fully engraved, leaving only enough room for the CL ring to build......

It's been this way for the past, what, 25 years now.....

I seriously doubt that RFBR schmidts like Jeff Patterson will be using the Eachus chamber when building Turbos.

We must be VERY grateful to Bill. When we got here in Finland Calfee style reamers 0,2250 and 0,2255 with straight body and 2,0 degrees leade we were going BIG step forward in 22 LR accuracy.

How did you figure that out?

Did you see it with a loupe first, or did you feel it with a slug and then check with a loupe?

That just jumped out at me.

Coming from a rimfire PRS angle , you have to consider they are not quite after the same thing as BR folks ,i have competed in PRS for years now and main thing has been a functioning feed and extraction, things have come so far that some action makers will not sell you action alone due to propensity of owners chambering xy chamber that might give accuracy but suddenly actions are not extracting and definitely not extracting live rounds ,followed by angry calls to the manufacturer on why overpriced POS is not working.
Live round extraction is q must as you often end up with round chambered when the timer beeps . Given sport is relatively new folks have been experimenting with various chamberings looking to find one that feeds and extracts while giving good accuracy. Have a look at the internet picts of these chambers some have massive ramps and chamfers made into them in desperate quest for reliable feed and extraction.

For years custom actions like Voodo and RimX smithed by XYZ smiths have to a degree been falling flat on their noses in the reliability department, large part of it are magazines but the second major component is gunplumbers cutting unsuitable chambers for the task at hand .
Its probably the main reason you still see CZ on the line and not just that you see folks investing thousands of $ into what is basically 450$ CZ's mostly on the promise of reliability, both CZ and Anschutz have 50+y of working magazine experience to them in and mounting the magazine housing and latch on to the action is part of what makes them consistent, not relying on bottom metal or chassis to have the perfect fit.


Keystone is currently the only shop using this chamber but at least on website they are talking 2.5° leade

Sounds like the Eachus chambering is a follow on to their previous one.

Am I to assume that cut out on the end of the tool is to slide between the barrel face and a stuck case rim to flick it out?

Yes
That one is one of the more elaborate implements , many have tiny tool bit

Why does one need to worry about pulling live rounds from a match rimfire chamber anyway?

Once the round is fired one can flip the empty out with one's fingernail if the extractors won't pull it for some reason...

So this whole line of discussion confuses me......

Chamber mentioned is used in magazine feed PRS rifles , where they compete in timed stages , you are bound to end up with bolt closed when the timer beeps, so have to extract live round there are other situations where you are extracting live rounds
